Faculty and Staff Development

Yavapai Community College is genuinely committed to employee training and development by providing employees time and resources that will facilitate their learning and professional growth. This is accomplished through several development committees, professional development day activities, customized training for managers, and many other special presentations and events sponsored by several groups on campus throughout the year.

YC Human Resources

The YC Human Resources Department offers/coordinates a variety of training opportunities. Offerings include institution wide requirements, including Workplace Ethics  and Preventing Sexual Harassment, supervisory skills workshops, and other interactive sessions on timely topics. Roger Runyan YC Employee Career Enhancement Fund

The Roger Runyan Employee Career Enhancement Award Program provides financial assistance to full time YC staff employees actively seeking increased professionalism and effectiveness through educational enrichment opportunities. The Yavapai College Foundation sponsors this award and determines funding annually.

Tuition Waiver

Full time staff and faculty and adjunct faculty employees are eligible for tuition waivers. YC policy outlines eligibility and the number of credits available to the employee and his/her eligible dependents.

YC's Working Adult Education & Training

The Business & Computer Science division offers the Yavapai College Partnership Program, a 6-week-Leadership Certificate & 3-semester-Management Certificate designed for working adults. These courses are application-oriented and rich in discussion, pulling from the student's workplace experiences. The courses range from one to three credits and roll into the Associates degree in Management, allowing students to continue on as their needs determine. These Fast-Track Management & Leadership courses are offered in Prescott & the Verde Valley.

Fall/Spring Employee Day

This is a bi-annual event which kicks off the semester with messages from College Leadership on relevant topics in the morning and offers break-out learning opportunities in the afternoon. Registration for all training events is held online at.

Faculty/Staff Development Committees/Funds

The College utilizes a committee structure which oversees the use of development funds. Eligible full-time college employees may apply to utilize these funds to improve skills, knowledge, and behaviors to enhance effectiveness and service to the College Community.

Great Idea for Teaching Center (G.I.F.T. Center)

YC’s G.I.F.T. Center supports collaborative professional development for all YC faculty (full-time and adjunct) in order to improve student learning through enhanced teaching effectiveness. The G.I.F.T. Center is faculty-driven and provides the College with an integrated program of teaching and learning initiatives, including mentoring.

Winter/Summer Institutes

This is a biannual, multi-day teaching and learning event for all full-time and adjunct faculty, focusing on best practices in the classroom, as well as technology topics for enhancing the student learning experience. The institutes are hosted by the Technology Enhanced Learning Services (TELS) department and Great Ideas for Teaching (G.I.F.T.) Center. The Summer Institute is held in May and the Winter Institute is held in January. Registration for all training events is held online at.

YC Technology Training

The Information Technology Services (ITS) and Technology Support Services (TSS) departments schedule a wide variety of computer-related training sessions throughout the academic year. All YC employees are encouraged to participate in sessions offered by these departments. In addition, if scheduled in advance, individual/departmental or on-demand instruction is available as well.

Faculty Sabbatical Leave

Sabbatical leaves provide eligible full-time faculty members the opportunity to enhance subject matter expertise, improve student learning and achievement of desired outcomes, and to achieve high-priority strategic direction for their program or division or the College.

Professional Staff and Administrator Sabbatical Leave

Sabbatical leaves provide eligible full-time professional staff and administrators an opportunity to study or perform project work in relation to high priority strategic directions of the College or other intellectual developmental pursuits.
