Starting a New Club

Club Eligibility Requirements

All campus clubs must:

  • be initiated by a current YC student (enrolled in at least 6 credits), staff or faculty member
  • show promise of serving the academic, professional, social or physical well-being of their members
  • have a central purpose that relates to the mission of the College
  • be open to all YC students – male and female
  • draw at least 51% of their membership from current YC students, faculty, or staff
  • participate in one community service activity per semester and provide documentation to the Campus Activities Office
  • adhere to all YC rules and regulations

3 Steps to Starting a New Club:

  1. Find an advisor - Advisors must be a full or part-time faculty, staff or administration member who is willing to commit at least 1 academic year to advising your club.
    • NOTE: This person needs to be located by the student and follow up contact made through the Campus Activities Office prior to any other steps being taken. Provide the name and contact information of the person willing to take on this position to the Campus Activities Coordinator.
  2. Write a club constitution - Constitutions must be submitted to the Campus Activities Office for approval.
  3. Provide a brief club description - Submit a 1 - 2 sentence description that will be used to market your club in print and on the web (the Club Brochure is only printed in mid-August and mid-January).

Benefits to Becoming a Club:

  • Club Room (3-119J) - There is a dedicated meeting and storage space for clubs, free of charge.
  • Discounted Rates/Fees - Club sponsored events using campus facilities are eligible for discounted rates and fees.
  • Conduct Fund-raisers - Clubs are permitted to conduct fund-raisers on campus.
  • Free Marketing - There are a variety of services available to help clubs advertise activities in both print and electronic mediums.

Jeff Rhoads, Campus Activities Coordinator, must receive notification of all club activities, complete with dates, times and location prior to the date of the activity.
