Fall 2009 Activities
August 26, 2009, 4 pm - 5:30 pm in M-137. Students and community members are invited to this free barbecue.
August 28, 6 pm - 10:30 pm in M-137. Come vote for your favorite local band and your favorite slammer. There will be free coffee and cookies. This event is open to all students and community members.
September 3, Noon - 1 pm in Building I will be the date of the first weigh in. Any student who is enrolled in a PHE or REC class will be able to participate in this weight loss competition. The student with the highest percentage of weight loss during the semester will win a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart and a 1 credit hour scholarship for a PHE or REC class for the following semester.
September 17 - All Day in the Student Union. Stop by for fun facts and free books on the Constitution of the United States of America.
September 14 - September 18 in Central Park (the lawn outside building H). Join Student Leadership Council as the collect unwanted shoes and clothing for the local shelters. Bring your unwanted shoes and clothes and hang them on the clothesline. At the end of the week all donated items will be taken to local shelters. This is a district wide event.
September 24 at noon in M-137 there will be a free concert for students and community members artist Jill Cohn will perform at this afternoon concert.
Dr. Michael Davis and Asher Albaz are the new faculty advisors to the Verde Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), which is the largest business career student organization in the world. There are opportunities for service, learning, networking, even state competitions. The state organization can be accessed at www.azpbl.org.
To kick off this exciting new year, come join us from 5 to 7 on Monday, September 21 in the grassy area outside building H. Food and drinks will be provided!
Come find out what PBL can do for you. (Hint: it looks real good on a resume.)
October 19 - All Day in the Student Union. Students and Clubs are encouraged to participate in creating a scarecrow for display in the Student Union. These scarecrows will be on display through Halloween and can be voted on during the Fall Festival. The winners will receive cash prizes. See Campus Activities for details.
October 28, 10 am - 4 pm in M-137. Come by and carve a pumpkin, paint some sugar skulls and eat candy and drink hot apple cider while hanging out with other students. This event is free to YC Students.
November 2 through November 25, there will be bins set up all over campus for you to be able to donate non-perishable food items that will be taken to the Old Town Mission.
December 2 - December 4, 9 am - 5 pm. This is the biggest fund raising event of the semester. Join all clubs and students as they sell artwork, clay items, coffee, raffles and assist with the Christmas Angel program.
December 7 - December 11. Just in time for finals, stop by the Student Union and take a break between tests to make some holiday ornaments. You can keep the ones that you make or leave them with Campus Activities. The ornaments that are left will be taken to local retirement homes.
