Mr. Dave Bremmer
Director of Personnel
Willy’s Wigit Works
(Use complete person and organization titles)
237 South Market Street
Famoustown, NY 01726
Dear Mr. Bremmer:
The opening paragraph typically states why you are writing, names the position for which you are applying and mentions how and where you received notification of the position.
Consider explaining in the second paragraph why you are interested in working for this organization and the reasons why you feel qualified for the position for which you are applying. Refer the reader to the enclosed resume. Highlight any special qualifications you want the employer to notice, but avoid rehashing the entire resume. You may also want to include some data or pertinent point not included in your resume.
The third paragraph should pave the way for the interview. This should include some action by someone, usually a specific date you will call for an interview appointment. If this does not seem appropriate, indicate your desire for an interview, and express your flexibility as to time. Tell the employer how to contact you.
In the closing paragraph thank the employer for reviewing your letter and resume.
Sincerely,
First LastName
Enclosure

Be brief and precise. Avoid flowery language. Vary your sentence construction. Address your letter to an individual, not just the organization or a title. Call and get the name of the person. (Top and bottom margins should be approximately the same size.)
