In 1976 Yavapai College, under the direction of Deb McCasland, started offering a series of performing arts events through the pilot artist-in-residence program from the National Endowment for the Arts.
That first year they presented six artists performing a week of school performances, workshops, and public performances. Over the years, performances were held in various locations including the student center, Courthouse Plaza, Sacred Heart Church, Hendrix Auditorium, YMCA roller skating rink, Prescott Fine Arts Theater, and the Elks Theater. On April 26, 1992, the college opened its new Performance Hall to further increase the artistic and theatrical quality of event presentation.
The Performance Hall's increased seating, state-of-the-art technical equipment and enhancements allowed the program to grow by leaps and bounds. In the fall of 1992, the Performing Arts Charitable Endowment (PACE) was established, and generous donations have built an endowment of over $1,000,000 that provides financial support to YC Community Events.
Today, Deb McCasland continues to manage a program that features more than 30 different performances annually for Yavapai County residents. Attendance has shown that the general public, educators, and parents desire and will support top-quality artistic programming.
Support for the 2007-08 season is provided by the Western States Arts Federation.
The 2007-08 season is also supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts with funding from the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Yavapai College/City of Prescott/Acker Trust Artist in Residence program continues to provide "out of the classroom" educational opportunities.
