General Education Core Courses

Core Values

The Core Courses at Yavapai College reflect the values and guidelines for general education and, in addition, commit students and faculty to:

  1. become aware of the ways in which issues evolve over time;
  2. explore the relationships between events and ideas in the context of varied physical, social, cultural and economic environments.

Core Outcomes

Upon successful completion of Core courses the learner will be able to:

  1. articulate a coherent center of values and an integrated understanding of the various environments around them;
  2. employ integrity, courage, curiosity and empathy in information gathering and reporting;
  3. identify areas of universal concern and employ diverse approaches to the analyses of these concerns;
  4. summarize and analyze the alternative conceptual frameworks through which various thinkers approach issues and controversies;
  5. analyze the evolution of issues;
  6. articulate the relationships between historical events and ideas in the context of the physical, social, cultural, and economic environments;
  7. scrutinize and combine different theories or different branches of knowledge.
