Yavapai College General Education Social and Behavioral Science Courses

Social and Behavioral Science Course Values

Social and Behavioral Science area courses at Yavapai College reflect the values and guidelines for general education and, in addition, commit students and faculty to recognize and acknowledge the importance of:

  1. accommodating diverse cultural backgrounds and values;
  2. intellectual exchange as an essential part of the learning process;
  3. cultural, social, historical, geographical, economic and environmental issues of universal concern;
  4. intellectual curiosity and a desire for the pursuit of knowledge;
  5. developing understanding and a sensitivity to the human condition in cultural and historic contexts;
  6. critical thinking skills;
  7. effectively communicating ideas;
  8. understanding cultural diversity and developing empathy for differing cultural values and viewpoints.

Social and Behavioral Science Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of study in social and behavioral science courses the learner will be able to:

  1. explain applicable methods that guide research in specific disciplines (i.e. Economics);
  2. evaluate the relevant perspectives, paradigms, arguments, theories or interpretations;
  3. define the relevant terminology and apply it to problems or issues;
  4. analyze how human diversity contributes to differences in human interaction and/or world views.
