GED classes are free.
Students earn 3 college credits and a grade of "S" for attending and completing the GED class.
Anyone can take classes if they are over 16 and are no longer attending public school or being home schooled. Students 16 and 17 years old must supply a letter from the last school they attended stating the date they withdrew from that school. The college also requires a permission form from parents of students under 18 who attend the college GED classes.
All students must attend Orientation, AED 010. In Orientation, we test students for their present reading, math, and language levels and give them information about how the classes work. We also sort students into the class sections, according to day, time, and location, so they know where and when their classes will begin.
Orientations for new students are offered in August, September, January and February each year.
We offer classes in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Verde Valley, and on-line.
Classes meet two days per week for three hours each day.
The time it takes for GED study depends upon individual reading and math ability, scores on pretests, and time spent studying. Allow at least one to two semesters.
No. You may take the GED test without attending preparation classes.
Students can take the GED test whenever they are ready. We have practice tests to help us determine when a student is ready to take the real test.
The GED consists of 5 tests: Reading, Science, Social Studies, Math, and Writing. Most of the tests consist of multiple choice questions. In addition, the Writing test includes composing a short essay, and the Math test has some short answer items. For more information about the GED test go to http://www.ade.az.gov/adult-ed/Documents/Publications/GED_Brochure.pdf.
