Frequently Asked Questions

2008 Part Time Comp Review

Q1. Why is this study being done?

A1. There are two primary objectives of this study. The first goal is to review the market competitiveness of our part time pay structures

The second goal is to update/create a part time classification structure and job descriptions. These objectives go hand-in-hand to ensure Yavapai College has a part time compensation program that is both externally competitive and internally equitable.

Q2. Do I complete the Questionnaire during work time?

A2. Yes, you may complete this questionnaire during work hours.  Coordinate with your supervisor to ensure that the department operational needs are not negatively impacted.

Q3. Is filling out the Job Evaluation Questionnaire the only way I get to explain my job?

A3. In short, the answer is yes, the JEQ is the only method for you to explain your work.  The Job Evaluation Questionnaire has a lot of questions so we can thoroughly understand your duties, the training and experience needed to do the work you do, and other job factors.

If we have any questions about the information you supply in the Job Evaluation Questionnaire, we may contact either you or supervisor to clarify.

Q4. How long will the study take, and when am I going to know how it affects me?

A4. Usually studies like this take about three to four months – that is the time frame we are striving for. You will hear about the results from your Supervisor after the findings and recommendations are presented to the Presidents Leadership Team.  This will be sometime after March 31, 2009.

Q5. Will there be a decrease in pay as a result of this study?

A5. There will be no decrease in individual’s current pay rate as the result of this study, but regrading of jobs is possible.

Q6. Will I get a raise as a result of this study?

A6. This study will not guarantee pay increases or reclassifications beyond the normal process.

Q7. Is this study trying to eliminate jobs?

A7. This study is not an efficiency study. We are not looking at how cost effectively or technically efficient work is being done. Also, it is not a staffing study. We are not looking at how many positions are required to support the College.

Q8. Will this study be looking at how well I do my job?

A8. This study is not a performance evaluation. It is not about the person, it is about the job. Because most of us tend to personalize our jobs, it is sometimes difficult to separate the employee from the position and job title. Therefore, we will look at what duties are performed in a classification and not who performs them or how well they are performed.

Q9. What is expected of me?

A9. We ask that you complete a Job Evaluation Questionnaire and turn it in to your supervisor by Monday, December 1st.  We would like you to submit your responses both on paper (signed) and electronically via campus e-mail to Human Resources and be as clear as you can.  The questionnaire can be found on the web at this link:  Part Time Job Evaluation Questionnaire.

Q10. If I have other questions, whom should I ask?

A10. If you have questions about how to best answer the questions on the PTJEQ, please discuss them with your supervisor.
