Role Focus:

Performs a variety of professional accounting work on a district level. Provides consultative direction to accounting system users throughout the District.

Typical Scope:

Works within a specific department to deliver a particular set of services

Typical Education:

Bachelor’s or equivalent experience required as minimum education.

Typical Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience required in the area of specialty, plus one year of lead responsibility preferred

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Typical Level of Interaction:

Requires persuasion and influencing when interacting with others and ability to train, coach, and counsel

Supervisory Impact:

May have lead or supervisory responsibility over others.

Representative Duties:

The following are examples of typical duties that may be assigned to positions in this job family. It does not imply that all positions within the job family perform all of the duties listed, nor does it necessarily list all possible duties that may be assigned. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyzes, edits and reconciles a variety of reports, records and documents for reasonableness, consistency, conformity with sound accounting and budget control principles and practices;
  • Researches and interprets fiscal and accounting regulations, laws and guidelines;
  • Disseminates guidelines on accounting policies, practices and systems to budget managers and users;
  • Provides fiscal control for assigned funds;
  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget;
  • Prepares a variety of financial reports including financial disclosure statements, annual budget report to governing board, reports to funding sources, tax reports and ad hoc system-generated reports;
  • Calculates and generates payments for federal and state payroll taxes and employee benefits;
  • Prepares journal entries; Assigns account numbers and performs system maintenance transactions;
  • May develop accounting procedures and propose changes to computerized accounting system;
  • May serve as liaison with external auditors, including collecting, reviewing, organizing and preparing required documentation;
  • May make post-closing adjustments to financial statements;
  • Conducts special projects; performs related duties as assigned.

  • Communications Skills - Adept with electronic communication tools and processes. Delivers critical messages by applying appropriate techniques, media, language, etc. Collates and interprets information from within the organization.
  • Presentation Skills - Able to make formal presentations that are more broadly based and complex. Can present to all levels of the organization within the scope of expertise. Skilled in the use of various presentation tools including multi-media.
  • Written Communication Skills - Can produce clear and strong messages that are understood by diverse audiences. Effectively communicates the issues that are complex in nature verbally and in writing. Reviews and edits written work constructively.
  • Leadership Skills - Actively assists with daily allocations of resources and coordinates activities. Takes responsibility for transferring knowledge to others in the workgroup. Overseas individual or multiple functions within a workgroup.
  • Analytical Skills - Uses several analytical techniques to identify several solutions and weighs the value of each. Actively uses both technical and cognitive skills. Can conduct gap analysis and identify shortfalls. Uses technology in analysis process.
