Role Focus:

Directs the work of others in a major department(s) or campus. Prioritizes, schedules, oversees, and evaluates work. Develops and administers budgets.

Typical Scope:

Works within a broad body of knowledge. Requires knowing internal and external procedures and policies to produce end results

Typical Education:

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Typical Experience:

Minimum of eight years of experience required in the same or related function. Two or more years of management responsibility required

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Typical Level of Interaction:

Requires persuasion and influencing when interacting with direct reports and ability to train, coach, and counsel. Requires extensive external contact and influencing.

Supervisory Impact:

Has direct and indirect reports. Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in one or more major department(s). Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. May also directly supervise non-supervisory employees.

Representative Duties:

The following are examples of typical duties that may be assigned to positions in this job family. It does not imply that all positions within the job family perform all of the duties listed, nor does it necessarily list all possible duties that may be assigned. Other duties may be assigned.

Plans, directs, evaluates and oversees administration of academic affairs for the campus by performing duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Chairs and advises district committees on various issues related to academics, instruction, curriculum, faculty affairs.

Develops/assists in development of academic policies and programs for college or specific campus:

Directs the planning, implementation and evaluation of instructional programs.

Directs and coordinates activities of instructional managers including assistant deans, program directors/coordinators, and others.

Plans and implements professional development activities for full time and adjunct faculty.

Supervises the preparation of catalog material for the campus and the departments/ divisions within the campus.

Determines scheduling of courses and recommends implementation of additional courses.

Assists in the selection, improvement, and evaluation of instructional faculty; review of credentials with instructional managers, screening of applications, and formulation of recommendations for final interviews with the Provost.

Maintains current knowledge of, and interprets and applies Federal, State, and related legislation. Revises program administration to comply with regulations. Monitors the wider college situation and actively provides input and feedback to senior college staff on the impact of new policies and procedures.

Responsible for strategic planning and the subsequent fine tuning of the strategic plan of the campus and is accountable for the implementation of many aspects of the strategic plan.

Responsible for oversight of determination of fiscal requirements, projections and budget preparation; monitoring, verification and reconciliation of expenditure of budgeted funds; reviews financial statements reflecting status of programs and activities; ensure compliance with College policies and procedures.

Serves as liaison officer with accrediting agencies which evaluate academic programs.

May serve as chief academic officer in absence of VP of Academic Affairs/Provost.
