Mail Clerk

Non-Exempt

Role Focus:

Performs routine entry level clerical and office support duties. Duties might include: answering phones, making copies, sorting mail, etc.

Typical Scope:

Works within a specific department.

Typical Education:

High school diploma or GED.

Typical Experience:

Up to one year of work experience in an office environment preferred.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Various Mail and Shipping software packages and databases Order processing systems.

Typical Level of Interaction:

Requires tact and courtesy when interacting with others; exchanges basic information to accomplish responsibilities.

Supervisory Impact:

No lead or supervisory responsibilities.

Representative Duties:

The following are examples of typical duties that may be assigned to positions in this job family. It does not imply that all positions within the job family perform all of the duties listed, nor does it necessarily list all possible duties that may be assigned. Other duties may be assigned.

Opens envelopes by hand or machine. Stamps date and time of receipt on incoming mail. Sorts mail according to destination and type such as returned letters, adjustments, bills, orders, and payments. Readdresses undeliverable mail bearing incomplete or incorrect address. Examines outgoing mail for appearance and seals envelopes by hand or machine. Stamps outgoing mail by hand or with postage meter. Folds letters or circulars and inserts in envelopes. Distributes and collects mail. Weighs mail to determine that postage is correct. Keeps record of registered mail.
