Role Focus:

Directs the work of others in the accomplishment of a specific function; prioritizes, schedules, oversees, and evaluates work, performance evaluation & discipline. Recommendations have significant weight on final personnel decisions. May track a budget or portion of a budget, but does not have final authority.

Typical Scope:

Works within a specific department to deliver a particular set of services

Typical Education:

High school diploma or GED required; two years of college or technical training preferred

Typical Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience required in the area of specialty, plus one year of lead responsibility preferred

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Typical Level of Interaction:

Requires persuasion and influencing when interacting with direct reports and ability to train, coach, and counsel

Supervisory Impact:

Serves as a first line supervisor; Oversees and evaluates work of primarily nonexempt employees; must supervise the equivalent of two or more full time employees. May have student employees.

Representative Duties:

Coordinates and oversees daily operation of a department or unit, and typically reports to mid-level manager or administrator.

Supervisory duties require more than 50% of employee’s time. Performed work is semi-routine or diversified under established policies in the performance of the majority of duties.

Assists manager in establishing policies and procedures for office operations. Familiarizes personnel with procedures. Assists personnel to achieve and maintain standards.

Makes decisions within the limits defined by policies and procedures set up by the department. Sometimes adopts or modifies methods and standards to meet a variation in controlling conditions.

Leads work team / group. Assigns and checks work. Performs the same or closely related work as those supervised. Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff. Requests new or maintains existing equipment and supplies. Performs other related duties as required.

  • Integrity and Credibility - Accepts responsibility for completion of tasks and results. Exhibits pride and ownership for own work. Acts in accordance with own beliefs even when others may disagree.
  • Communications Skills - Adept with electronic communication tools and processes. Delivers critical messages by applying appropriate techniques, media, language, etc. Collates and interprets information from within the organization.
  • Presentation Skills - Able to make formal presentations that are more broadly based and complex. Can present to all levels of the organization within the scope of expertise. Skilled in the use of various presentation tools including multi-media.
  • Written Communication Skills - Can produce clear and strong messages that are understood by diverse audiences. Effectively communicates the issues that are complex in nature verbally and in writing. Reviews and edits written work constructively.
  • Leadership Skills - Actively assists with daily allocations of resources and coordinates activities. Takes responsibility for transferring knowledge to others in the workgroup. Overseas individual or multiple functions within a workgroup.
  • Analytical Skills - Uses several analytical techniques to identify several solutions and weighs the value of each. Actively uses both technical and cognitive skills. Can conduct gap analysis and identify shortfalls. Uses technology in analysis process.
  • Problem Solving Skills - Champions methods, procedures, or systems which reduce time and effort. Utilizes technology to increase efficiency in new ways. Gathers relevant information systematically - considers broad range of issues or factors.
