Date of PLT Policy Adoption: April 14, 2009
Revised Effective Date: April 14, 2009
The College observes the following holidays by closing for business:
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
Days preceding and following Thanksgiving Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Five consecutive business days during the spring break
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Six consecutive business days at the end of the calendar year during the winter break
Holidays falling on a Saturday will be observed on the preceding Friday. Holidays falling on a Sunday will be observed on the following Monday.
Regular full-time employees will be compensated at their normal rate of pay for regular hours if the observed holiday falls on the employee's scheduled work day or during paid sick or vacation time. Holiday pay will not apply to employees on unpaid leave.
Regular full-time non-exempt employees who are required to work on their scheduled holiday will be compensated at their normal rate of pay for the holiday plus their base rate for the amount of time worked. If an observed holiday falls on the employee's normal day off the employee may: 1) schedule alternate time off within the pay period in which the holiday occurred; or 2) receive the holiday pay and work regularly scheduled hours, as approved by the department based on operational needs and budgetary considerations. A paid holiday is not considered hours worked for the purpose of calculating overtime pay.
Part time, temporary, and student employees will have the time for observed holidays off without pay. If required to work they will receive straight time pay for hours worked.
The College may close as a result of inclement weather or other unusual or emergency circumstances. Non-exempt employees who are required by management to work during paid closure will be paid in the same manner as employees who are required to work on a holiday.
