Yavapai College strives to be a family-friendly workplace and is committed to maintaining an environment in which members of the College community can work together effectively. The College permits the employment of qualified family members as long as such employment does not, in the opinion of the College, create a conflict of interest as described below.
Nepotism, for the purpose of the policy, is favoritism toward family members in decisions regarding hiring, selection, promotion, wages, hours, or other conditions of employment on relationship rather than on objective standards and the needs of the College.
The College will exercise sound business judgment in the placement of family members in accordance with the following guidelines.
In enforcing this policy it is important to keep in mind that even an appearance of impropriety should be avoided.
Family member, for the purposes of this policy, refers to persons related within the third degree of affinity (marriage) or consanguinity (blood), including spouse, child, grandchild, great grand children, parent, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, grandparents, great grandparents, uncles, and aunts.
This definition is not to be construed to exclude the possibility of questions of favoritism arising with regard to other close personal or intimate relationships involving individuals of the same or opposite sex, residing together or apart.
