Volunteers are an important human resource for the College and may provide frequent and continuous assistance to the various instructional, support service, and administrative units when demonstrated needs exist. Volunteers do not receive compensation or employee benefits for the personal services they contribute to the College.
Volunteers are appointed by the President, or his/her designee. The College volunteer shall complete volunteer registration materials prior to their volunteer status beginning. This material will include general contact information and a "statement of understanding," indicating that the volunteer understands College Procedures relative to volunteers and that no benefits or wages for serving as a volunteer at the College are provided. This registration material will be housed in the Human Resources Office and will be provided to the volunteer’s department.
The College does not provide accident or sickness insurance or Workers' Compensation coverage for volunteers. The College general liability insurance covers volunteers when they are involved in an authorized College activity.
Volunteers will not normally be assigned to supervise or participate in high risk activities. If such an assignment is authorized, a responsible full-time College employee must be present during all activities.
Supervisors of volunteers should keep a record of volunteers' work activities and time donated to the College. Supervisors have the responsibility to ensure that applicable training is provided for all employees in their area.
