Yavapai College aggressively seeks reference checks of all potential new hires. The College reserves the right to contact references given by the applicant during the selection process as well as those not listed by the applicant. The College may also conduct a criminal history check or require fingerprinting for sensitive positions or in cases required by State or Federal law. A criminal record of convictions does not necessarily preclude an applicant from employment. The College may deny employment to violent offenders or to those whose criminal history is directly related to the position for which they are applying. Reference checks must be completed prior to the applicant’s first day of employment, unless otherwise approved by the Human Resources office.
Reference checks are conducted under the direction of the Human Resources office. The Human Resources office may delegate responsibility for reference checks if it is in the best interest of the College. The appropriate “Reference Check Documentation Form” must be completed after contacting each reference. Any academic degrees must be verified on this form. In general, references will be conducted by telephone or electronic mail for expediency. All applicants must sign an official Yavapai College job application form prior to employment. The applicant’s signature on this form confirms the College’s right to check references and deny employment based on the results of the reference check. The completed Reference Check Documentation Forms will become a part of the new hire Personnel file upon commencement of employment.
