4.x Admission to Yavapai College

Title: Admission to Yavapai College

Scope: Prospective Students

Yavapai College invites qualified individuals who demonstrate evidence of potential success as adult learners in a institution of post-secondary higher education to seek admission.

In accordance with Arizona state law, Revised Statute 15-1805.01, Yavapai College may admit:

A. A person who satisfies one of the following criteria:

1. is a graduate of a high school that is regionally accredited or approved by an authorized state educational agency; or

2. has obtained a high school certificate of equivalency; or

3. is 18 years of age or older and demonstrates evidence of potential success in the College; or

4. is a student transferring from another regionally accredited college or university in good standing.

B. A person who is under 18 years of age and has not satisfied the requirements above may be admitted upon achievement of:

1. a composite score of 93 or more on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT); or

2. a composite 930 score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT); or

3. a composite 22 score on the American College Test (ACT); or

4. a passing score on the relevant portions of the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) test; or

5. a satisfactory score on a College placement test designated by the College that indicates the student is at the appropriate college level for the course.

C. A person who is under 18 years of age and has not satisfied the requirements above may apply for Conditional Admission. The College may admit a student to enroll in [a] course[s] if the student meets the established requirements of the course[s] and the College officials determine that the student's admission is in the best interest of the student and the College. The college does not admit underage students to remedial classes. The College may require recommendations from the applicant’s parents, teachers, school administrators, and/or College instructors. A student must re-apply for Conditional Admission each term. Parental consent is required for admission.

D. Yavapai College may admit students according to intergovernmental agreement, contract, program participation, or College-approved instruction.

Yavapai College reserves the right to enroll students in courses. The College may limit students under age 18 to six (6) credits or fewer per term.

Clarifications to Conditional Admit Policy

1. Underage students who meet one of the admissions criteria will receive on the spot decisions. (current policy)

2. Conditional admit students will be allowed to progress to sequential course(s) in a subsequent term without having to fill out the college application form. Parental consent will be required.

3. Underage students who do not meet any of the admission criteria can be admitted, without referral to the admissions committee, to enroll in the approved list of exempted courses. However, registration staff can use discretion to refer such a student to the admissions committee.

4. Underage students who do not meet any of the admissions criteria who are seeking to enroll in course(s) not on the exempt list will be referred to the admissions committee. (current policy)

5. The admissions committee will meet weekly during peak registration periods.
