Chief of Police

Yavapai College is now recruiting for the position of Chief of Police.

Summary of Responsibilities & Duties

  • Responsible for all operations and actions of the department district wide
  • Provides for future planning and budgeting
  • Establishes department policies and procedures
  • Develops liaison with other law enforcement agencies
  • Maintains discipline within the department
  • Supervises and evaluates subordinate employees
  • Reports to the Dean of Student Affairs
  • Assists with development and implementation of Emergency Management Planning

  • Department / Location - Student Affairs - Prescott Campus with District wide responsibility
  • Grade / Salary - Grade: 15, DOE
  • Posted Date - May 12, 2009
  • Closing Date - Review begins on June 10, 2009

Minimum Expectations & Requirements:

  • If State of Arizona Certified Peace Officer, Arizona Police Officers Standards and Training test challenge not required.  If not currently Arizona Peace Officer certified, must become certified within 6 months
  • Must meet all minimum Arizona Police Officers Standards and Training requirements for a Peace Officer.
  • Must pass an Arizona Police Officers Standards and Training background investigation including a polygraph examination, medical examination, Psychological examination, fingerprint check and drug screening.
  • No felony conviction in any State or Federal jurisdiction
  • Experience as a liaison with other law enforcement agencies
  • Experience with developing department policies and procedures
  • Experience with planning and budgeting
  • Willing to be a working (uniformed) Chief of Police
  • Knowledge of Arizona Police Officers Standards and Training and Arizona Criminal Justice Information System policies and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of criminal investigations
  • Knowledge of Incident Command Systems and Emergency Preparedness

Preferred Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:

  • Experience as a police supervisor
  • Experience supervising a college police department
  • Police Instructor Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Ability to deal with various college constituents with sensitivity and tactfulness
