Part time Safety Officer

Yavapai College is looking for a part time Safety Officer to work at our Prescott Valley Campus. Shift: Monday - Thursday 5:00 pm - 9:30 or 10:00 pm

Summary of Responsibilities & Duties

Under minimal supervision, enforces policies established by the Yavapai College board of Governors, dealing with vehicular parking, traffic control and overall maintenance of public order.  Performs a variety of safety functions to ensure the campus is a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff and visitors.

Regular foot patrol of buildings, parking lots and surrounding property is required.  The incumbent will report, by phone, any suspicious or criminal activity to Campus Police.  Complete lock up of all buildings at assigned campus.  Report any hazards or safety concerns observed.Complete a daily activity log.  Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Grade / Salary - part time, Salary $10.00 per hour, 19 3/4 hours per week; 16 weeks in the Fall semester and 16 weeks in the Spring semester; Shift: Monday - Thursday 5:00 pm - 9:30 or 10:00 pm

Minimum Expectations & Requirements:

  • Must be responsible
  • Must be able to learn and further develop professionally
  • Must be able to work independently and adapt in a changing workplace
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Physical ability is essential
  • Must display a willingness to appreciate the differences in individuals
  • Must successfully pass a polygraph examination
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any State
  • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Prior experience in the criminal justice field and dealing with the public
  • Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions under pressure, as to the appropriate action in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • Ability to work cooperatively, courteously and professionally with all segments of the public
  • Experience in crime prevention
  • Familiar with the structure of a post secondary educational institution
  • Red Cross certified in CPR and AED
