Tutors

Tutors provide individual, small group, and/or drop-in academic support services to currently enrolled students seeking assistance in academic courses at Yavapai College.

Generally, tutors are expected to assist students with academic achievement in assigned subject areas.

Other assistance and duties may also include: serving as a mentor, promoting the Prescott Learning Center and its services, participating in the development of academic success workshops, reviewing class materials and instructor expectations, discussing the text, or other assistance specific to a particular subject area.

Work locations, schedules, and number of hours may vary based on student need.

Paid training using College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines will be provided.

Based on funding availability, a pay increase may be awarded upon meeting all CRLA certification requirements.

Additional required tutor training opportunities may also be provided when available.

Department / Location

The Prescott Campus Learning Center serves campuses throughout the Prescott Tri-City Area.

Work locations may include:

  • Prescott
  • Prescott Valley
  • Chino Valley
  • Career & Technical Education Center (CTEC) located near the airport

Minimum Expectations & Requirements:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and competence in the subject area(s) to be tutored
  • Exhibit patience and a positive attitude in an academic learning environment
  • Be able to explain concepts to others effectively and in a variety of ways
  • Effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population
  • Demonstrate reliability and possess good organizational and communication skills
  • 3.0 cumulative college grade point average or better including a minimum of 12 credits of academic coursework
  • 3.0 or better in the course(s) to be tutored

Preferred Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:

  • CRLA Certification(s) or other tutor training certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

Salary

Part-time up to 19 ¾ hours per week: $7.75 per hour
