We will conduct a live test of our new outdoor emergency warning system (siren) on Tuesday, August 12 (mid-morning) on the Prescott campus and August 13 (early afternoon) on the Verde campus.
The siren will sound a wail tone for 15 seconds followed by the message: “This is a test of the college emergency warning system. This is only a test.” We may repeat this sequence a couple of times if necessary.

Yavapai College will also test other avenues of emergency notification around the same time period of the siren test such as text messaging, computer alerts and voice messaging. This event is part of Yavapai College’s continuing efforts regarding emergency response planning.
No. That being said, you do not want to stand right next to a live siren for a long period of time just like any other loud noise. If you are uncomfortable with the noise level in your area, please cover your ears with your hands during the test.
Employee's tasked with observing the test or in the immediate area will have access to hearing protection.
We are also going to test our alertYC system which consists of text messaging, voice messaging for classrooms, email messages, and computer alert messages. Faculty and staff may receive redundant messages in their email. alertYC subscribers (students, faculty, and staff) will receive messages if they are subscribed to the Prescott or Verde emergency groups. Each test will be treated separately so if you are subscribed to both you should receive both notices. If you have not yet signed up for AlertYC please do so
Just observe. This test is not intended to be a drill. The College is continuing to work on its emergency response plan, and drills are coming in the near future.
Questions regarding the siren tests should be directed to the Office of Public Information at (928) 776-2288.
