Library Instruction

Scheduling library visits for your class

Instructors may schedule class visits to the library to learn research skills any time during the library's open hours including evenings and weekends.

Presentations give your students an introduction to:

  • The catalog
  • Databases
  • Books
  • Periodicals
  • Multi-media resources

Instructional sessions tailored to your class's needs

Library staff will plan with the instructor an instructional session tailored to the class’s needs.

Library staff offers both general and subject-specific instruction on how to access and evaluate print, electronic and/or Internet resources effectively.

We can bring the instruction to your classroom, at your campus.

Schedule your Library Instruction at least one week in advance to ensure getting your desired time.

Instructors are required to accompany their students

Instructors are required to accompany their students for library instructions and visits. Often library instructions are provided to support upcoming class assignments.

When instructors attend the library instruction, they are available to answer questions raised by the students. Even when there isn't an assignment, instructors are expected to participate in the library instruction by offering clarifications or focusing on the value of resources.

Instructors are allowed to provide a substitute when they aren't available with the understanding that the substitute is prepared to address questions and participate just as the instructor would.
