Residence Hall Orientation
Fall 2009 Check-in:
Friday, August 21st from 10:00am - 3:00pm
Check-In will begin at 10:00am in the hall lobby where you are assigned. At check in you will receive your Orientation packet and schedule of events for the day.
Please arrive early as we have a full day ahead of us and the earlier you show up the sooner you can begin your check-in process.
Below are the things you will need to take care of prior to 3:00pm
- See the One Card desk in Building One to have your photo taken for your student ID; this is your meal card and your access into the building,
- Visit the book store and pick up your text, supplies and YC gift items,
- Stop by the mail center in Building Seven to pick up your mailbox key,
- If you have financial aid or loan money coming to you stop by and make sure they know where to find you so your check can be dispersed on time.
- Residence Hall orientation is required for all new residents. Each hall will have its own orientation at some point after 6:00 pm on Friday. Details will be posted for your hall's orientation upon move-in.
Parent Orientation
Parent orientation will be held in the Performance Hall from 3:00-5:00. See the agenda below:
- 3:00-3:30 - Welcome and Introductions
- 3:30-4:00 - Registration/ Financial Aid/ Judicial Affairs/ Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA)
- 4:00-4:30 - Meet our new food services folks from SODEXO, Q&A regarding meal plans and diner dollars
- 4:30-5:00 - Open Question and Answer forum
- 5:00-6:00 - Join us in the food court for dinner (Build your own sandwich)
Following dinner, all students are required to attend orientation upon moving into the Residence Halls. Orientation will be held on Friday, August 21st at 6:00 pm in your assigned hall. Please refer to your handout for details from you resident assistant.
What to bring to the Residence Halls - Fall 2009
- All rooms are equipped with a wireless internet connection, cable television, and local phone service with voice mail. In order to get fully connected, you need to bring a computer, television, and a telephone.
- All mattresses measure 80 inches by 36 inches. As such, you'll want to find twin extra-long sheets.
- Residence Life is no longer renting our microwaves and mini-fridges
- Mini-fridges up to 3.3 cubic feet are allowed.
- Microwaves are allowed, but anything with a hot surface or a flame - toasters, toaster ovens, sandwich makers, candles, Foreman grills, etc. - is not allowed.
- You'll want to bring a trash can and cleaning supplies.
- Though the laundry facilities are free of charge, laundry detergent is not provided.
- There are bike racks outside of Marapai Hall and between Kachina and Supai Halls. If you plan to bring a bicycle, please remember to register it with your Hall Director.
- To save space, it might be a good idea to bring some plastic storage bins for under your bed.
- Don't forget to also bring a standing lamp (especially in Marapai) and a fan (though all rooms do have air conditioning).
- You also might want to bring a combination or key lock for your closet.
