Meal Plan Rates Per Semester

Students living in the residence halls are required to purchase one of the meal plans listed below. Commuter students can also purchase a meal plan, please see the Office of Student Affairs to set this up.

Meal Plan Rates for 2009-2010

Semester cost = Meals per week + RoughRider dollars per semester
$1,520 = 19 meals + 100 Roughrider dollars
$1,310= 15 meals + 75 Roughrider dollars
$1,220 = 10 meals + 125 Roughrider dollars
$1,220 Block Meal Plan = 100 meals per semester + 175 Roughrider dollars

A Meal Includes

  • one enterée
  • a choice of three sides, may consist of a small salad (4 oz bowl), soup (12 oz bowl), a veggie or starch and a dessert
    • Sides in a 12 oz bowl (except soup) will be charges as a double side
    • No package products
    • Pizza and Corn/Hot dogs are not considered sides; they are main entrees
  • any size drink

Meal plans 19, 15 and 10 operate on a weekly declining balance and do not roll over for unused meals.  The 100 block plan is a declining balance over the duration of the semester.  Meals can only be spent on the food that is made on the premises. The meals are counted Friday through Thursday. In other words, if you run out of meals before Thursday, you will get a new set of meals to use beginning on Friday morning.  Meal plans are not transferable and may not be used for purchase by anyone other than the card holder.  The only plan available for sharing is the 100 block plan.

Roughrider Dollars

Roughrider Dollars are used to purchase pre-packaged items, extra portions, and meals for friends/guests.  Roughrider Dollars operate on a declining balance over the course of the semester and do not roll over the the following semester nor are they refundable.

Block Meals

The Block Meal Plan is counted by the number of meals per semester. These meals may also be spent on friends/guests with no daily limit (unlike the other plans). This means that both meals and Roughrider Dollars are transferable to friends/guests. The Block Meal plan and Roughrider Dollars are based on declining balances for the entire semester.

Upgrading and Downgrading Meal Plans

If students find that their original meal plan choice is not working for them, they have the option of downgrading their meal plan during the first week of each semester, but they can upgrade their meal plan at anytime during the semester.  An upgrade from P4 to P3 will not be approved as this is not considered an upgrade in cost.

A Variety of Culinary Options

Students can access the food court with The Fresh Grille, Market Carvery, Sandwich Central, Trattoria Pizza & Pasta, a full salad bar, Wrapables, OutTakes (grab-n-go), Double Treat Bakery, desserts, beverages and pre-packaged items.

Sick Trays

To receive a sick tray, a friend or your roommate must bring your ID card and approved authorization stating that you are ill and unable to attend the meal.

Flexi Cash

Flexi Cash is money that is put on your Yavapai I.D. card (read more about the OneCard here) and is deducted as you use it. It can also be used to supplement meal plans if you run out of meals or Roughrider Dollars. Commuter students will find this option handy if none of the above meal plans suit their needs.

When using Flexi-cash a 10% Food Court discount is given at the register at time of purchase. You may purchase your Flexi Cash at the Business Office. Flexi Cash may be spent at your discretion on your friends, guests, etc.

Lost Card Procedure

If an ID Card (meal card) is lost or damaged, it must be reported and/or replaced immediately. Report the lost or damage card to the Residence Life Office. A new card will be issued for a $10 replacement charge.
