TRiO/SSS Services

Students must be accepted into the Student Support Services program before using the program's services. SSS services are free to participants. SSS services include personalized academic advising to ensure retention and graduation, transfer advising to a four-year institution, assistance with financial responsibilities, laptop and calculator loans, and disability support.

Academic Advising

Extended Academic Advising

TRiO/SSS provides intensive one-hour academic advising session to assist students with the following:

  • Appropriate course selection
  • Referrals for placement in the basic skills classes including math, reading and writing
  • Development of individualized academic and retention plans
  • Financial aid advising to assure sufficient financial support for students
  • Guidance and advising in all aspects of transferring to a four-year university or college
  • Consistent follow-up by advisors to ensure that students' academic goals are being met

Financial Information and Assistance

TRiO/SSS provides students with financial information and assistance with filing the FAFSA, writing scholarships, and workshops on financial literacy.

Laptop and Calculator Loans

TRiO/SSS has a limited amount of TI83 graphing calculators that SSS student participants may borrow for the entire semester if they are enrolled in the appropriate math class. TRiO/SSS also has a limited amount of laptop computers that students may borrow to use for class work.

This equipment is for SSS student use only. If lost or damaged, the student will have a hold placed on the account until the equipment is returned and the student may be charged the cost of equipment.

Please check with SSS staff if you are interested in this program.  You must first be accepted into the SSS program before being eligible to borrow equipment.

Individual Tutoring

TRIO/SSS provides 1-1 tutoring for the students in our program. Students must first be accepted into the SSS program. Contact the tutoring specialists at one of the two campus locations.

Disability Support

The Student Support Services Program assists qualified students with securing appropriate accommodations through the Disability Resource Office. Appropriate accommodations are determined by the Disability Resource Coordinator and are based on the student's disability documentation.

Grant Aid

TRIO/SSS has additional monies to provide for our student participants who are also eligible to receive a Pell Grant.

University Field Trips

TRiO/SSS sponsors trips to visit at least one of the Arizona State universities once a year. This is an opportunity for students to visit a school they may be interested in attending.

Cultural Enrichment

TRiO/SSS holds cultural events several times every year, such as Hispanic Heritage Month and American Indian Heritage Month. Events like these provide social support for the diverse student population in TRiO/SSS.
