The Yavapai College Art Gallery occupies a special niche in the art instructional program. It allows YC art students to study the work of professional artists, offers them the possibility of showing their own work in a professional manner, and helps them understand the workings of an art gallery.

The gallery also serves as a kind of open classroom that invites the college community and the larger community to explore the insights and experiences found in art. In all these educational endeavors, the gallery’s mission is to promote the availability and appreciation of excellence, diversity, and vitality in the visual arts.
The art gallery and the FRIENDS of Yavapai College Art evolved together. FRIENDS was originally established to help art faculty set up and maintain a college art gallery as part of the instructional program. In those early days we helped transform an old motorcycle showroom into a dedicated gallery space, doing everything from painting and landscaping to serving as gallery sitters. Although its focus has broadened over the years, Friends still provides essential support for the Gallery. We routinely sponsor several receptions each year to open new exhibitions, underwrite the printing of announcement cards for each exhibition, and help to fund special projects.
