Here are comments from some of our Yavapai Communities for Young Children Partners:
If the community wants an education system that "works," people need to change their priorities and put families and community first. Schools are a reflection of society. When we ignore our schools, our children, and the towns and cities where we live, we all lose. When we all work together as a community to put our children, schools and families first, we all come out winners. This is why Beaver Creek School District joined YCYC to help our communities and support our families in becoming winners.
Being involved in this Partnership allows me to have participation in an organization that is making a difference in young children's lives. YCYC is on the forefront of change—determining the future of the health and education of young children.
YCYC offers an opportunity to stay informed about what’s happening within Yavapai County – what services are available for families with young children, what training is available for my staff, what training is needed that I or my staff might provide, funding sources that might be available to help pay for needed services, what are the unmet needs within Yavapai County for this population, and so on.
Through networking and collaboration with other professionals who work with young children, I can keep up to date on these issues. Further, I bring the “health” perspective to the YCYC group. Health, growth and development are all so interconnected – we cannot talk about the well being of young children and their families without including the health component.
YCYC is an exciting, multi-disciplinary group of early childhood professionals. The collaborative efforts of this collection of experts are shaping the future of a young child’s care and education here in Yavapai County. I am honored to be a part of YCYC.
I want to be involved with the YCYC because I believe that children need every opportunity to progress developmentally so they are ready for the transition into school. Working with the Early Intervention Programs, I see firsthand how this system helps children in all areas of development so they can have every chance to succeed in the school environment with their peers.
Many voices raised together are always stronger than one. Yet when those voices all share the same vision and passion that is when real change is made. Never has such a diverse group of talented people joined together with one vision: to improve the lives of children in Yavapai County. I have felt warmly welcomed by the members of the YCYC not because we all say the same thing, but because we all share the same goal.
