Instructional Formats
Yavapai College delivers instruction utilizing various formats.

Physical activity and participation are incorporated into the class. |
| Classroom-based |
Traditional classroom delivery. |
| Computer-based |
Regular use of a computer is required. |
| Directed Study |
Provides students with a way to complete a required class when no other alternative exists. Directed study is an individualized method of delivery for approved college courses and is allowed only when approved by the supervising dean. See your academic advisor. |
| Field Trip-based |
Off-campus field trip is a substantial, required component of the class. |
| Independent Study |
Supervised special project undertaken with the direction of an assigned faculty member. Includes specific, mandatory requirements. See your academic advisor. |
| Individually paced |
Individually paced instruction. |
| Interactive Television |
Interactive instruction between Y.C. campuses delivered through closed-circuit TV cameras, screens and microphones. Students are able to interact as if they were in the same classroom. |
| Internet/Web-based |
Instruction via internet. May have optional on-campus orientation meeting. |
| Internship |
Structured field experiences within specific academic disciplines or technical areas. Enable students to apply knowledge gained in the classroom while refining technical skills and gaining relevant workplace experience. See your academic advisor. |
| Open-Entry/Closed-Exit |
Proficiency-based instruction where students work at their own pace. Students may register at various times and must complete classes by an established deadline. |

Proficiency-based instruction where students work at their own pace. Students may register and complete at various times. |
| Private lesson |
Individually scheduled classes, typically music. |
| ROTC |
ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) through Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. |
| Web/Classroom |
Instruction via internet; attendance at in-person meetings is required. |
