Hardware/Software Requirements

Yavapai College online classes require students to students submit work digitally. The software may vary and the instructors requirements may vary. We have provided several tutorials here on the most common software used. We have also provided some links to vendor software tutorials. 

The following system requirements are recommended in order for your online experience at Yavapai College to be a successful one:

Browser

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.5 or higher, Netscape Navigator 6.2 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox. Safari for Mac users will work as well.

Browser Settings

JavaScript and Cookies must be enabled. Please refer to Checking Browser Settings for details.

Minimum Hardware Requirements

PC Configuration

  • 400 Megahertz Intel Pentium III Processor (933 preferred)
  •  128 Megabytes RAM (256 preferred)
  • 6 Gigabyte Hard Drive
  • 17" Monitor 56.6 Kbps Modem ( Cable Modem / DSL preferred)
  • Windows 98, 2000, or XP

MAC Configuration

  • 400 Megahertz iMac (933 preferred)
  • 128 MB RAM (256 preferred)
  • 6 Gigabytes Hard Drive
  • 17" Monitor
  • 56.6 K Modem (Cable Modem / DSL preferred)
  • Macintosh OS 9

Internet Connection

56K modem or better

PC Users -Collaboration Tools (Virtual Classroom & Lightweight Chat)

The Java 2 Run Time Environment 1.3.1_04 or higher is required in order to use the Collaboration Tools.

This plug-in may be downloaded from the page that appears when a user joins a Collaboration Session, or may be found at http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp.

Mac OS X Users (Virtual Classroom & Lightweight Chat)

Apple offers the Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) 2.2, which is compatible with the 1.1.8 release of Sun's JDK. A PowerPC Mac with Mac OS 8.1 or later and at least 40 MB of RAM is required to use this version of MRJ. A Java 2 Runtime Environment is shipped with MacOS X. There are no plans porting any Java version higher than 1.1 to any older Mac OS. Go to apple.com for more information.

Email

An email account is also required for taking online courses.
After logging into Blackboard, click Personal Information > Edit Personal Information to determine if your email is accurate in Blackboard.

Additional Downloads

Some courses require basic plug-ins such as Real Player, Adobe Acrobat, Quicktime, and Microsoft Office converters and viewers.
