EMT Course Outcome

The EMT course is designed to instruct students to become proficient, practical Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s). This course prepares one to function in the areas of controlling life-threatening and non–life threatening situations, and using non-medical skills.

Prerequisites for Program

All items below must be completed and brought to first day of class:
  1. Negative TB Test Result from physician
  2. Copy of Photo ID
  3. Evidence of a 10th grade reading level or educational degree
  4. Copies of specific medical records
  5. Students must be 18 years of age by the last day of class. See: “Disclosure - Age Requirement” below.

The Yavapai College requirements for entry into The EMT course are based upon The Arizona State Rules and Regulations, The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Standards and Regulations, and The American Heart Association Requirements.

Disclosure - Age Requirements

According to the State of Arizona and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), the age requirement is 18 years of age when taking the Arizona State and National (NREMT) testing.

Note: Due to insurance requirements of various agencies within Arizona, you may not find employment until you are 21 years of age.

Suggestion: If you are between the years of 18-21, before making your final decision, check with the local EMS and Fire agency/s of interest, to see if they have this age restriction as part of employment.

Course Requirements

  1. Students must maintain a minimum score of 75% and pass the Written Final Test with a 75% (failure to pass the final exam will result in a failing grade for the course).
  2. A final comprehensive practical skills examination will be conducted according to the NREMT guidelines and requirements (failure to pass the final skill exam will result in a failing grade for the course).
  3. To receive an AZ Certificate the student must pass the NREMT computer test and send NREMT results to the state in order to receive their EMT Certification.
Attendance:

Maximum 16 hours missed per semester (no make-up hours possible).

Class Credits & Hours:
  • Class is 10 Credits (Tuition & Fees)
  • 150 hours of Didactic and Practical Skills
  • 10 hours of Clinical Experience over 8 weeks
  • EMS 123 (CPR for HCP) is included in EMS 132 class

Criminal History

Medical fields may require background checks into past criminal history, which could disqualify a person from entering into the medical field.

You will need to submit any requested information to the YC Financial Aid Office in order to have your application processed and reviewed before you schedule an appointment.

Professionals are required to maintain certification through continual education every two years.
