What is a Pharmacy Technician?

In the workplace, pharmacy technicians are front line workers who assist pharmacists in preparing and providing medication and other health products to consumers or patients. They receive written requests, refill requests, and verify patient information. They answer telephones and refer customers to the pharmacist for detailed information. They may mix or package prescribed medication, type and affix labels, and file filled prescriptions.

Technicians may also perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication, such as counting tablets and labeling bottles. They also perform administrative duties, such as answering phones, stocking shelves, and operating cash registers.
