Choosing A Major
Beginning or returning to college is a life-changing decision. While deciding "where" to study, you need to have a firm understanding of "what" you are most interested in studying. Unfortunately, there is no simple way to figure this out. You must rely on introspection as well as accurate information received from others. That information is available at your high school, community college, local libraries, and on the Internet.
It's recommended that students declare a major by the time they complete 30 credits.

GETTING STARTED
- Examine and assess your abilities, career and life goals, interests, and values. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What kind of skills do you have? What subject areas do you like? What do you value in work: security, stability, pace, working alone or with groups?
- Compare several schools based on your educational needs, such as: major or program requirements and costs, location, convenience, etc.
- Use the resources and assessment tools available at Advisement, Career, and Transfer Centers. Participating in career fairs, co-ops, and internships, student activities, volunteer work, or part-time employment are also ways you can explore areas of interest.
