Yavapai College provides technological resources to students, faculty, staff and community users in support of programs at the College. Computing resources include local area networks and connections to other computer networks--specifically, but not exclusively, the Internet, as well as e-mail and voice mail accounts. Students, faculty, staff and community users share the responsibility of ensuring that technological resources are used effectively, abiding by the laws, policies, and good practices which apply to their use

Yavapai College has developed sustainability initiatives, some focusing on saving energy, water, or reducing emissions. In keeping with that effort, YC created its ‘A Greener PC’ program, with two main components: ‘Goodnight PC’ and ‘Ponder Prior to Printing’.

This program reduces energy costs and reduces overall CO2 Emissions. Nearly half of the power used by a PC never reaches the processor, memory, or hard drive. Instead, energy is wasted as heat, increasing energy consumption and cost on indoor air conditioning.

Measures include:

  • Auto-shutdown programs for all district labs and classrooms at night; computers will not be turned on automatically in the morning.
  • Encouragement of faculty and staff to shut down their PC’s before leaving at night.
  • Continual computer reduction efforts and flat panel monitor replacements.

‘Ponder Prior to Printing’ is a YC personal responsibility initiative that will attempt to reduce paper consumption. Things to Consider...

  1. Try to reduce your individual everyday printing
  2. Attempt to conduct paperless meetings – use technology if it is available
  3. Print or copy double-sided if you can
  4. Be proud – encourage others to reduce wasteful paper use
