MobileYC Frequently Asked Questions

What is mobileYC?

mobileYC provides access to many popular College resources including academic calendars, class schedules and availability, your schedule, your email and calendar, your account information, and more. All of this is available 24/7 on your mobile phone, PDA, Internet-connected media player, and more.

Where do I get mobileYC?

Use your device’s web browser to go to http://m.yc.edu. You’ll be automatically redirected to the mobile site if you visit our main website (http://www.yc.edu) from a mobile device once we officially release it.

What do I need to access mobileYC?

An Internet-connected device with a web browser. We have optimized the site for newer mobile phones (smartphones), such as the Apple iPhone, Android-based phones, and newer Blackberry devices.

You will need a valid YC network account to access certain features.

Do I have to install any special software?

No, but your device’s web browser should support JavaScript and cookies (almost all do). If yours doesn’t, you may not experience all of the features that the site has to offer.

How much does it cost to use?

Yavapai College doesn’t charge anything to access, however your mobile phone provider may charge fees.  Please contact your mobile phone provider to confirm any charges that may apply.

Is mobileYC customizable?

Yes!  Select the “customize” link at the bottom of any page to see available options.

What about privacy – what information will you collect from me?

We place a cookie on your device that allows storage of preferences.  We store your preferences in a database which is linked to the cookie on your device.  If you delete this cookie your preferences and customizations will be lost.  We collect device characteristics one time per device (screen size, version) for site development and reporting purposes.  We do not store your password, social security number, or student ID or associate these with mobileYC in any way.

What if I have a problem, suggestion or question?

Please contact us – we’d love to hear your suggestions and answer your questions, and although we hope you don’t have a problem we’ll be happy to help. We’re open Monday-Friday from 8am until 6pm, and can be reached at 928-717-7711, or by email at webservices@yc.edu.

What features are available now?

About YC – provides basic information and facts about the College.

Academic Calendars – provides detailed listing of deadlines, important dates, and holidays/closures for each semester.

Catalog / Schedule – provides a listing of all departments and courses at the College, including schedule and live availability for the current semester.

Degrees & Certificates – provides a listing of all degrees and certificates currently offered by the College. Includes program requirements and a link to search for course offerings.

Directories – provides a searchable listing of all full time employees, faculty members, and departments at the College. For many departments, includes location information and hours of operation.

Events – displays upcoming events sponsored by, supported by, or located on College campuses.

My Account – displays details about your account – balance due (if any), available FlexiCash balance, and more.

My Email and Calendar – displays your most recent emails and upcoming calendar entries. Customizable. Requires Login.

My Messages – displays important announcements and any messages you’ve opted-in to receive from a variety of categories. Customizable. Requires Login.

My Schedule – displays your class schedule for the current semester. Includes campus/building/room information and notations on schedule changes or class cancellations. Requires Login.

Weather – displays the current weather conditions on your preferred College campus.

What features do you plan to provide in the future?

Computer Labs – We hope to provide a listing of all computer labs by campus, including the ability to see labs with available computers, lab hours and locations, and even search for labs that have specific software available.

Emergency Alerts – Will provide information on what to do and who to contact in an emergency, as well as allow you to register for emergency alerts directly from your mobile phone – no computer needed.

Library Tools – We hope to provide locations, hours of operation, “txt a librarian”, access to the library catalog, and library account information.

My Blackboard – We hope to provide view-only access to assignments, discussion boards, grades, and more.

Outages – Will provide information on known or planned outages, as well as current system status.

Device-Specific Applications – We may also consider device-specific applications (e.g. Droid Market App, Apple AppStore App) based on feedback, usage trends, and requests from the community.
