Book Club

The OLLI Book Club meets the 2nd Monday of the month from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. in Building 30, room 126. Please join us. Contact Ginger Carlson at ganddcarlson@cableone.net or 445-1226 for more information. Upcoming books:

State of Wonder; by Ann Patchett (September) - The Amazon rain forest is one of the most glorious, mysterious and potentially deadly places on earth. Not surprisingly it’s way beyond the comfort zone of pharmaceutical researcher, Marina Singh, who is coerced by her boss into traveling from Minnesota to a remote site in Brazil to bring back answers about a colleague’s unexplained death.
Push; by Sapphire (October) - Push is the 1996 debut novel of American author Sapphire. Thirteen years after its release, it was made into an acclaimed film that won two Academy Awards and was produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.
Unsaid; by Neil Abramson (November) - Rarely has a novel captured so movingly the deep bonds between people and the animals that share their lives. Veterinarian Helena Colden has died of breast cancer, but she still watches over her shattered attorney husband and their menagerie--dogs, cats, horses, and a pig, all with personalities as distinct as their human companions.
International Dining

The OLLI Special Interest Group (SIG) for International Dinners meets monthly in members’ homes on a rotating basis with 6-8 people per home. Recipes for international cuisine are easy to find on the Internet or at the library and fun to try. Contact Sharon Walsh at sharonaz@cableone.net or 237-9354 for more information.

Mindfulness Meditators

This SIG is open to all OLLI members who want to practice meditation in a group setting. You can be new to meditation or an experienced meditator. The SIG meets weekly. Contact Matt and Roseann Lukaszewski at roseannmatt@earthlink.net call Roseann Lukaszewski (928) 830.1158 or Matt (928)830-1189 for more information.

Mah Jongg Players (Chinese)

The Mah Jongg SIG will meet on Mondays when the campus is open from 9:00 a.m. - noon in the cafeteria. Contact Nikki Krause at prcnana@cableone.net or 708-9295 for more information.

Chess Group

With Tom Green is up and running, with 5 - 6 participants. It is in the formative stages and they will decide as time goes on how often to meet. Contact Tom Green at tagreen@owu.edu or (928) 778-1111.

Wine Tasting

We are conducting preliminary planning for a Special Interest Group on Wine. In our planning it became apparent that this means different things to different people. Some people want an educational experience where they can learn how to evaluate wines. Others are interested in a more informal social tasting of wines. Still others are interested in visiting local vineyards.

If you are interested in a wine SIG please email Hal Freedman at haltf@cableone.net or call (928) 445-5643. Please indicate which of the above ideas (more than one is okay) best describes your interest, or any other ideas or thoughts you may have.
