Faculty
and students use Blackboard primarily as an online classroom resource,
both for traditional classes and for Internet classes. If you are
teaching a course at Yavapai College, an empty Blackboard
shell has been automatically generated and is available for you to add
content.
Like classroom teaching is more than just telling students some content, teaching in the online environment is more than just clicking keys on your keyboard. Before we even look at the computer part of online instruction, we are going to look at best practices and the pedagogy behind learning and teaching online.
The ten short articles in this Faculty Focus publication cover a lot of the current best practices and provide a great introduction to online teaching. With the growth of online learning colleges are all developing fantastic resources for instructors. Before beginning to create a storyboard for your online course, you should take a look at the following two sites that have great videos about using the online environment as a place to learn and teach.
With that basic information about teaching online here are the Yavapai College Online Guidelines. Now a look at the more technical skills and how to use Blackboard. Remember that the TeLS staff is here to assist you on your journey with monthly scheduled trainings, one-on-one training, and a wide variety of web-based content. TeLS can also set you up with a Blackboard shell to use as a sandbox to practice your skills. You can reach us at tels@yc.edu or 928.771.6120.
