Gifts by Bequest - Join the Legacy League

In generations to come, no one will remember what house you lived in, what car you drove and maybe not what you did for a living. What they will remember is the difference you made while you were here on earth.

Why Leave a Legacy?

More and more people from all walks of life are discovering that one of the easiest and most effective ways to make a difference and touch the future is to leave a legacy.

One of the benefits of having a valid will in place is the peace of mind you experience. To know that a plan is in place and that you have cared for the needs of your loved ones and favorite charities – that you have arranged your affairs thoughtfully – can allow you to sleep just a little more comfortably at night.

Your friends in Yavapai College Foundation’s Office have some complimentary materials to help you with your will. Our “will kit” contains information about basic estate planning and how to prepare for your visit with your attorney. It also includes sample bequest language should you choose to include Yavapai College Foundation in your plans.

The reason we provide this information is not only to help you get “that good feeling,” but to make sure your wishes concerning your charitable giving will be carried out. We are also thinking about your loved ones and the good feeling they will have in knowing that you have cared for such an important matter.

No Gift is Too Small

Some of our supporters may give of their time and other gifts, but think they don’t have enough wealth to leave something behind after they are gone. The reality is that any gift of any size can make a difference.

You do not need to be wealthy to leave a legacy. Over 90% of all bequests and 50% of all dollars bequeathed come from non-taxable estates with assets under $2 million. For the Yavapai College Foundation, most of our bequests are from estates with assets under $1 million.

There are things you can do today to leave your legacy to the Yavapai College Foundation:

  • Prepare or update a will.
  • Leave a gift in your will or trust to our non-profit organization, YC Foundation.
  • Leave a specific dollar amount or percentage of your estate or 401K plan in your will or trust.
  • Consider using physical assets such as real estate, jewelry, stocks, etc. for your legacy gifts.
  • Name YC Foundation as the beneficiary of your IRA or pension plan.
  • Purchase a new life insurance policy, naming YC Foundation as the beneficiary.
  • Name YC Foundation as the beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy.
  • Remember deceased loved ones with memorial gifts.

There are some tax benefits that are available even if your estate is non-taxable.

Most legacy gifts come from non-taxable estates, however, you may be interested in exploring other methods such as charitable gift annuities that allow people to enjoy tax benefits from their contributions while they are still living. Gifts to charity can often return significant financial benefits to you and your loved ones, instead of leaving a legacy to the government in the form of taxes. Yavapai College Foundation works with the Yavapai County Community Foundation to establish the best tax saving plan to fit your needs.

Once you make us aware of your bequest or planned gift, we have a Legacy League with a variety of activities and services for our donors.
