Captain James A. Simmons Memorial Scholarship
The Captain James A. Simmons Scholarship is awarded to a student who has served in either active or reserve duty in the United States Marine Corps. The scholarship was created in 2014 to honor the memory of James (Jim) Simmons, by his loving wife, Jan, and his devoted sons, Judd and Bret. It is hoped that the scholarship established in his name will assist other Marines as they make their mark in our world.
How You Can Help
Donating to provide students with scholarship money for college makes an impact both immediately, and for generations to come.
Yavapai College Foundation scholarship funds may be endowed or expendable, and may be named in the donor’s honor, in memory of a loved one, or for a business or organization.
Expendable scholarships are funds which are awarded each year by the Foundation to deserving students. Funding for the scholarship can be one-time or annual. Donors work with staff to establish the criteria for awarding the scholarship. Suggested Expendable Scholarship donations begin at $500.
Endowed scholarships are long-term, perpetual funds that generate annual income, a portion of which is awarded each year by the Foundation to deserving students. The minimum principal required to endow a scholarship is $10,000, which may be paid through one gift, over time, or by bequest. At the time the scholarship is fully endowed, a pre-established portion of the income will be used to make the annual scholarship awards.
Yavapai College Foundation scholarships are administered by the YC Office of Financial Aid. To learn more about applying for a Foundation scholarship, visit the Financial Aid website.
