The Verde Valley Dean provides leadership and administrative oversight of the Verde Valley campus, Sedona Center, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs, and three academic departments college-wide.
The role plans, directs, oversees, and evaluates the curriculum programs/services, classroom-based courses, and online/hybrid course delivery, working in close collaboration with leadership and with a variety of constituents to develop and design curriculum program review and assists in the development, review, and implementation of budgets.
The position provides leadership in the development of creative class scheduling and program development to better meet the needs of students, thereby making courses more accessible. The Dean will pursue new and enhanced programs to meet the diverse needs of the student body and community.
Additionally, the Dean focuses on expanding workforce development and expansion of CTE areas to maximize opportunities for the community. The Dean also serves as a liaison to faculty and administration to create a cohesive, collaborative and rewarding teamwork environment and attends community events and meetings in the Verde Valley and Sedona on behalf of the college.
Dr. Irina Del Genio
Irina Del Genio is the associate dean of the Liberal, Visual and Performing Arts division at Elgin Community College where she provides strategic leadership for the Division.
Dr. Del Genio earned her Ph.D. in Political Philosophy and her master’s degrees in History and Political Science; she lived and worked in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and most recently in the U.S. as a college instructor, grant manager, and college administrator.
She is a frequent guest speaker on Russian-American relations, international affairs, political impact of radical ideologies, and global consequences of social unrest in contemporary societies.
Dr. Carol P. Richardson
Dr. Carol P. Richardson is a first-generation college graduate with over twenty-five years of experience in academe. Her academic grounding includes the fields of music and education, with degrees from Valparaiso University (BME), Northwestern University (MMus) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (EdD). She began her career as a high school music teacher at the south end of the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia.
She has held tenure track/tenured faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Northwestern University, University of New South Wales (Sydney), and the University of Michigan.
Her academic leadership experience includes six years as department chair in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at the University of Michigan, and eleven-plus years in decanal roles in California, including Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences, and National University’s College of Letters and Sciences in La Jolla.
Dr. Richardson was awarded a National Academy of Education/Spencer postdoctoral fellowship to support her research on the impact of one’s home musical culture on children’s musical cognition. She was also the recipient of a fellowship from the American Academy of Education (ACE) that enabled her to job shadow a university president for one year.
