The English Department provides the first two years of composition and reading requirements for students who wish to transfer to baccalaureate-granting colleges and universities. We offer a wide range of developmental courses designed to assist students reach minimum requirements in reading, writing, word usage, grammar and vocabulary, as well as improve their reading speed and spelling. We offer a variety of literature courses, such as Introduction to Shakespeare, Women and Literature, World Literature and British Literature that fulfill arts and humanities credit requirements for the General Education Core or can be taken for enrichment. We also offer special interest courses such as our Literature in Film course series.

In this program, students can:  

 

• Take all the English classes they need to fulfill the Liberal Studies core for any degree program  
  
• Take literature classes to transfer into English programs at colleges and universities  
  
• Improve their basic reading and writing skills  
  
• Take literature and special interest courses for enrichment purposes  
  

English classes are offered on all Yavapai College campuses. We offer classes at a variety of times and in many formats, including classes at night, on weekends, in computer labs, online, once a week and everyday of the week.
