In simple terms, geography is the science of place and space. But unlike other disciplines that are defined and limited by what they study, geography is defined by how things are studied. Geographers look at where things are and ask, "why?" to gain understanding as to why things are where they are, how places differ and how people interact with their environment. As a result, students can study the physical world and/or the cultural world, and focus on areas as diverse as volcanoes, climate, ecology, religion, economics, and politics, or become a specialist in a particular region of the world.
Geography students can obtain degrees in physical, cultural or regional geography, and specializations in many different areas. Geographic knowledge, techniques and skills can be applied to a wide range of careers, such as tourism, mapping, business, land planning, law, education and medicine.
Geography classes are offered on the Prescott and Verde Valley campuses.
