Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy (NARTA)
The Police Certification Program is designed to introduce recruits to law enforcement work. Students must be appointed to this program by an Arizona Law Enforcement Agency.
The basic training program at NARTA encompasses 680-hours (a 17-week course) and includes topics from the study of criminal investigations to firearms proficiency and safety, as well as Intoxilyzer 5000, Impaired Driver Detection and Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Training.
This program challenges students mentally, physically, and academically, while at the same time laying a foundation for advanced training. To assure the best possible chance of future success, attention to detail, individual responsibility, self-discipline, autonomy and teamwork, among other qualities, are stressed and required. The academy staff will provide a positive, professional environment for recruits so they may acquire needed knowledge, develop necessary physical skills, and become confident in their ability to become successful peace officers.
The Academy is required by Arizona Peace Officer's and Standards Training (AzPOST) to ensure that each graduate of basic training meets specific minimum performance objectives.
All Police Certification Program classes are held on the Prescott Valley Campus.
