Political Science is the study of forms of government and the processes of governing. Students study not only the American federal system of government but state and local government as well as global politics. Political philosophy (i.e. liberalism, conservatism, socialism), authority and legitimacy, power and conflict, elections and voting are all topics addressed within political science courses.
With a degree in political science a student can:
• Become a teacher
• Find a career in law enforcement
• Seek a career in government
• Become a social science researcher
• Pursue advanced studies in law or other professions
Yavapai College offers two specific political science courses every semester. These are American National Government (POS110) and Arizona Constitution and Government (POS221). Both courses meet teacher certification requirements. They are offered every semester on the Prescott Campus and periodically on the Verde Valley Campus. Both courses are also offered online.
