Sports Turf Management students become skilled in the growth, care and development of turf grasses for municipalities, schools, landscapes, stadiums and golf courses. Students learn the fundamentals of soils management, equipment mechanics, pesticide management and water management to prepare for careers such as golf course superintendents, sports turf specialists, greenskeepers, mechanics, irrigation specialists, pesticide applicators, general managers, and club house professionals.
Partnerships
Yavapai College works closely with the surrounding golf courses allowing students to develop and reinforce skills needed in the sports turf industry. Many former and current students currently work at local courses. Student training has been provided by Prescott Lakes Golf Course, Antelope Hills Golf Course, Quailwood Golf Course and the Town of Chino Valley Recreation Department.
Facilities
Yavapai College has a fully integrated two par three golf hole course with wetlands, lake and sand trap features. Students are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the course as part of the training program.
Sports classes are offered at the Chino Valley Agribusiness & Science Technology Campus.
