Creative Writing

Yavapai College offers a wide variety of Creative Writing courses ranging from beginning level fiction and poetry to novel writing and advanced poetry. Classes are offered in traditional and on-line formats. Students learn how to write creative work, workshop one another’s pieces and read published work critically. Emphasis is placed on the creative process and finding one’s voice as an artist.

Creative Writing classes are offered on the Prescott, Verde Valley and Sedona campuses.

Threshold Magazine
Students on the Prescott Campus design and produce the award-winning Threshold Creative Arts Magazine each spring. The magazine features art and writing created by YC students across the college district.

“Hassayampa Institute presents The Literary Southwest”
The Hassayampa Institute, Yavapai College’s nationally-recognized annual creative writing conference in Prescott, Arizona, is pleased to host The Literary Southwest, a Southwestern-themed literary series pairing some of the region's most prominent writers from diverse cultural backgrounds for each program. The new series will run in the fall & spring, two readings each semester, and is titled The Hassayampa Institute Presents The Literary Southwest: Deepening the Dialogue. Each program will feature multiple viewpoints on a specific topic. Please click here for a schedule and more information on visiting authors.
