The Yavapai College Music Department presents its fall Instrumental Concert at the YC Performing Arts Center on Sunday, October 21 at 3 p.m. The show will get off to a rousing start with the brass ensemble performing a brass canzona from the PAC’s balcony, celebrating the 400th anniversary of Italian composer Giovanni Gabrieli.
Admission is $7 and free for children ages 14 and under. Tickets are available online at http://www.ycpac.com/all-events, at the Performing Arts Center Box Office or by calling 776-2000 during business hours. The PAC and box office are located at 1100 E. Sheldon St. in Prescott.
The college’s Concert Band, directed by Gary Flowers, will perform Black Forest Overture by Michael Sweeney and one other piece. The Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band, directed by Dr. Roy Breiling, are presenting several pieces with a hunting theme. Highlighted compositions featured by the Symphony Orchestra include The Hunt by Tchaikovsky and Hunter’s Chorus by Carl von Weber.
The Symphonic Band, also directed by Dr. Breiling, will open with Dakota, Buffalo Hunting by Jacob de Haan followed by the poignant The Cry of the Unicorn by Rossano Galante. The band will conclude the concert with a performance of A Fantasy on English Hunting Songs by Clare Grundman.
