The “Old West” lives on at Yavapai College’s 2nd Annual Arizona Living History Celebration on Sat., Aug. 22, 2009. Hosted by Yavapai College’s Division of Lifelong Learning, Community Education Department and local historian, Melissa Ruffner, this day-long event takes place at Yavapai College’s Prescott Campus Library (Building #19).

Presentations and demonstrations include:

  • Pumps, Pipes and People: History of Prescott’s Water Works
  • Fort Whipple’s Glittering Social Life – 1868-1880
  • Victorian Wedding Customs (wedding clothes from 100+ years ago on display)
  • Pioneer Medicine
  • Gail Gardner: A Man Worth Remembering
  • Prescott Regulators and Their Shady Ladies (costumed demonstration)
  • In Their Own Words: Diaries of Women Who Settled the West
  • Yavapai County: Mother of Counties, Cradle of Statehood

  • Yavapai – Prescott Indian Tribe, and much more!
Registration for the Arizona Living History Celebration is required. Cost is $35 per person or $50 per couple (any two persons registering together). Register online at www.yc.edu/ce, by phone at 928.717.7755 or in person at Yavapai College’s Prescott Campus, Building #31. Families and children are welcome.

Complimentary coffee and muffins will be offered in the morning for all participants. An optional barbeque lunch by Jube’s Firehouse BBQ will be available for an additional $9 per person at the event.

Perhaps no other place epitomizes the American Southwest more than Arizona. This land’s stark beauty has captured the imaginations of artists, writers and filmmakers alike. Native American customs, outlaw legends and the legacy of the American Cowboy -- America’s 48th state is steeped in history. Don’t just read about it, experience history at the 2nd Annual Arizona Living History Celebration!
