Saddle Up for a High Plains Adventure

Round up the family and come on down to Yavapai College’s Agribusiness & Science Technology Campus in Chino Valley during the Labor Day Weekend for a High Plains Adventure, Sept. 5 & 6, 2009. It’s fun for the entire family! And, admission and parking are FREE!
The Yavapai College Agribusiness & Science Technology Campus is located at 2275 Old Home Manor Drive in Chino Valley, just off Perkinsville Road.
Held in conjunction with the Chino Valley Territorial Days, Yavapai College's High Plains Adventure will feature food, fun and high-spirited cowboy activities in true western tradition. Saddle up for equestrian events, English and Western horse show classes, barrel races, youth gymkhana, equine and canine demonstrations, and an educational petting zoo where kids of all ages can get to know our four-legged friends. And, if you’re looking to “go green,” attend informational workshops on hydroponics and green energy sources.
Susan Sammarco, director of public information at Yavapai College, says “As a part of the Chino Valley community, Yavapai College believes its new High Plains Adventure is the perfect partner to support Chino Valley’s Territorial Days. Celebrating the town’s old west history, Chino Valley residents and guests can explore many different “western” activities. Just as the whole family will enjoy the events at Territorial Days, kids, ages 3 and up, as well as adults will find a variety of great events to participate in on Sat., Sept. 5th. For horse enthusiasts, a horse show will be held in the new arena at the Chino Valley Campus on Sun., Sept. 6th! We are excited about the synergy our events will enjoy and know that the public will experience two days of great entertainment!”
On Sat., Sept. 5th, popular local equestrian experts and Yavapai College Equine Science instructors, Gary Gang and Sara Chambers, will demonstrate practical horse handling during equine training and safety presentations with live horses. Sara Chambers will demonstrate safe handling of horses during hoof examinations, grooming and veterinarian exams. Gary Gang will demonstrate entering and exiting the horse trailer safely in addition to training of inexperienced horses and their owners. Events on Sat. will take place from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
On Sunday, horse fanciers can participate in English and Western Horse Show classes for children aged 10-18 and adults. These will include a wide variety of halter and equitation classes, driving classes, trail classes and more. There is no charge for spectators to enjoy the show. Horse show classes start at 8:30 a.m.
To participate in events on Sat., a nominal fee applies. To take a horse show class on Sun., the cost is $8 per class. Proceeds from the weekend's activities will be donated to the Yavapai College Foundation for scholarships to the Chino Valley Agribusiness & Technology Center's programs.
Yavapai College’s Chino Valley Agribusiness & Science Technology Campus houses programs in agribusiness technology, residential building technology, hydroponics, equine science, sports turf management and fisheries management and offers general education classes, including English, mathematics and science.
