Prop 300 Compliance
Proposition 300, passed by voters in November 2006, stipulates that persons who are not citizens or legal residents be charged out-of-state tuition and that they are not eligible for any type of financial assistance using state monies.
In compliance with this law, Yavapai College will require all students to provide documentation regarding their legal status. Acceptable documents include Arizona driver’s license or identification card issued since 1996, birth certificate, passport and official immigration papers. Students will have the option of presenting an acceptable document at the registration counter or sending a copy via fax to 928-776-2151.
In order not to unduly burden students who register online or who may not have an acceptable document at hand during registration, the College will allow students to register at the in-state rate without any financial assistance on the basis of a self declaration at the time of registration and will provide a grace period of 45 days during which time the required documentation must be provided. Out-of-state tuition will be charged if a student fails to provide documentation in the prescribed time period.
Students who have filled out FAFSA will have automatically fulfilled the requirement of documenting their legal status and no further action will be necessary on their part.
It should also be noted that the College may require current students to prove their legal status should the attorney general’s opinion require us to do so.
It is important to know that the new law does not prevent anyone from enrolling in the Yavapai College. However, the law does require that students who are not citizens or legal residents pay out-of-state tuition.
